The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Packing For School in 28 Days! *ha!* written @ 8:17 PM on August 22, 2003 Christine came over this evening and helped me pack my inhuman amount of shit that I "must" haul with me to college. Almost done. Sorta. I hope tomorrow is a pretty day. Well, everyday is a pretty day to me, but I hope tomorrow is especially nice. It would be a nice little good omen if move-in day goes according to plan. Usually I have philosophical things to say in regards to new beginnings, i.e. a new school year, but I've used too many minutes in the philosophy department and now I'm caught without reception. I just hope this year goes well. I told Ron at the pizza party yesterday that my time in the scene shop for this semester has been cut dramatically; he seemed disappointed because he wanted me to take the work-study course for what I basically did all summer, but my course load is simply too much this fall. I told him next semester perhaps-- I just hope I don't get caught upstream without a paddle in the theater department. On the other hand, this semester has been mostly devoted to art. Christine and I took a look at my old art from senior year of high school while cleaning and packing stuff, and while I can always see the flaws in my work, I have a new appreciation for what I did. Looking at some of the old paintings that I did, I saw some techniques and brushwork that I didn't realize I could pull off. Somehow, I hope I can find time to explore more of what I've got in me. It helps that I have that advanced drawing course this semester. AP Art kind of beat the passion of it out of me, and I feel like my first year of college was more like a session with a psychologist than it was an exploration with basic skills and concepts. Wow, I finally said that. And this is my major we're talking about here. *** Ashley, Christine, and I went to Newport last night and saw the movie 28 Days Later. Oh. My. God. If you have a weak constitution, I don't recommend seeing this flick. On the other hand, when you get past the psychological thrill and the gore and unnerving images, it really has a powerful theme that vaguely reminds me of the basic nature within us all that you see in Lord of the Flies, only it's depicted as much darker. You think the film is going to end with hope, but it kind of leaves you hanging. Basically, this film discourages you from even so much as thinking about seeing Requiem For a Dream. If you didn't like The Ring, stay away from this movie. All in all, however, I give this film the Sam Reno Stamp of Approval because-- even though Ashley and Christine will find this morbid-- it really is interesting and neat. I'd go see it again. The cinematography, although somewhat basic, only adds to it's charm, for lack of a better word. And the acting was excellent. Some parts far-fetched and unnecessary, yes, but over all they add to the film's appeal. And, as the girls will agree, the main character is rather cute once he shaves. *smiles* *** And how about that new Heath Ledger movie coming out soon?! What a thriller that looks to be in the previews! The sad thing is, however, that I'm not turned off in the least by his depiction of a priest. I'm sure this is a mortal sin by the terms of the Catholic Church, but I think he's even sexier in that frock-thing-- kind of like what Keanu Reeves wore in The Matrix: Reloaded. Well, you know my feelings about men in black. *wink* *** *sigh* Oh, sorry, still thinking about Heath... *le sigh* *** Well, I suppose it's back to packing...
