Damnable Exams! written @ 1:17 PM on May 12, 2003 Well, I have officially bombed Terry's theater sound class. The final exam was a practical in which he gave us equipment and wires and told us to hook up a sound system with certain specifications. Our job was to make sure there was sound from the mics and a signal coming from the minidisc players. Since there was nothing to really study in preparation for this exam, I spent a good part of the weekend visualizing the different parts of the EQ, the playback, the consule, and how to hook up the speakers using the snake. Then I figured the only thing left to do would be to deduce which wires would be used, something I couldn't necessarily decide until I got there. Well, the second I reached the booth, I drew a blank. I became flustered with all the inserts, the wires, and the equipment that was strewn all over the place. I ended up connecting the EQ, the minidiscs, and one of the mics wrong. On top of all this, I only had twenty minutes to figure out how this was to be done and how it would fit together in my mind. Did I get sound? Yeah, I managed that far. My guess is that I did solid C work. I'm only trying to justify now how it went wrong. Terry explained the problems to me-- but this doesn't ignore the fact that I detested his class. *lol* So... it's looking like I'll have a B in that class for the semester. Goddamn. There goes my chances for solid As. I have to make an A on my exam in speech class tomorrow. Looks like the fun is over...
