The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Must Go to Europe! written @ 10:11 PM on July 01, 2003 I just got finished talking to my friend Tricia from college, who is going to be my roommate this year. She said she was planning to go to Paris in summer 2005 to take some classes for degree credit, and then go Europe-trotting for a few weeks. I said, "Dude, I want to come." And she said, "Dude, why don't you?" It was a good question. And even though it would ultimately mean I would be spending more money than working for it and saving it, classes in Paris would be a fabulous experience, and you know me: I am all about fabulous experiences. So after five minutes of serious deliberation, I decided: I am going back to one of my motherlands in summer 2005, when I am a junior in college. Doesn't really matter what courses they offer; hopefully they'll have an art and kick-ass history course I could wrestle with, all the while traipsing off to the countryside to gather real French records for my genealogy research, and naturally I'll be toting 1000 canvases and living as any self-respecting girl of bohemian heritage should be doing! I could easily get a $1000 scholarship from the NKU overseas program, and all I would have to do is save up about $3000 more ($2000 to cover the rest of the tuition and $1000 in spending money *evil grin*). And I am excited! I mean, I'm not excited about flying because I passionately hate airplanes and I would initially skip out on any trip if it meant flying, but-- hell!-- five-week classes in Paris, mucho free time, serious genealogy research, serious art, serious classical theater, serious coffee, and serious globe-trotting! If I don't go to Europe at least one point in my life, then I will have considered my life a complete failure-- and if I die in an airplane then it's just as well, so I might as well risk it, n'est-ce pas? The only other drawback would be the French. It wasn't exactly my strongest suit in high school, even if I had a keen appreciation for it in spite of all the misery it caused me, so perhaps it would be wise to reenter the gates of hell my junior year before I left home. It would fulfill my general studies requirements anyway, so might as well look at it as the lesser of two evils, n'est-ce pas? Anyhoo, I'm serious about going on this trip to visit the motherland, and when Tricia goes on her weeks-long excersion across the rest of Europe, I'm going with her then too. I'll need to go to London and stalk Alan Rickman, go drinking in Ireland and visit all the important places the "Titanic" was docked at, get chocolate in Belgium, go drinking some more in Germany in honor of the fatherland, do some serious eating and art in Italy all the while appraising the Roman ruins and saying "wazzuuuup, jigga, jigga" to the Pope, eating some more in Greece, visiting the Czech Republic and heisting more genealogical records from Krasny Brod... *sigh* *drool* And then I'll come back home to the grand ol' USA and eat peanut butter. Mmmm, peanut butter...
