The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Prom written @ 7:46 PM on April 28, 2002 I am so zoned out... Prom was last night. I woke up yesterday morning at about 9:30, and my mom did my nails because I am absolutely horrible when it comes to nails. At 12:30 was my hair appointment. I was going for the Gladriel Lord of the Rings effect, and my hairdresser pulled it off quite nicely with my own original twist. I had a nice headress to wear with my ivory 18th century French style court dress. Basically, I looked like the Fairy Queen, according to various sources. A lot of my friends and acquaintances came over to my house around 6 (after an afternoon of laboring over homework), and we had this huge picture session. I hate picture sessions. Ryan was my date, and he cleaned up real nicely. He brought some of his family members over, so we had a nice chat until the other hooligans arrived. Ugh, it poured rain all night, but my hair wasn't going anywhere after my mother sprayed that awful Freeze hair spray. My hair was like a rock that was specially molded to fit my head. It looked nice, but at certain points of the night I felt like I was balancing a boulder on my head. The prom was held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, and they really had a nice set-up there. There were picture sessions, we received a "free" gift, and the dining and dance area was very elegant. I met up with most of my friends there. They all laughed and said no one else could have pulled off wearing a dress like what I had and done. Damn straight. Dinner was okay. The food last year was much better, though. Dessert was supreme. I swear someone spiked the punch. When all that was said and done, most people went out to dance. I know I did. Ryan attempted to, but he is such a social butterfly that it took him about 15 minutes to get to the dance floor because he would stop to talk to everyone on the way. As a result, I only danced with him once, but I really didn't mind. He was having a good time, and I was just peachy doing my own thing. He says he's considering going to NKU because UC is becoming more and more intimidating and cold. I don't blame him. That would be so cool to have him go to my college too. Things wouldn't be so empty to begin with. Jeez, the rest of the night is kind of a blur. I did so much and had a good time. It was a little bit more low key this year than last year, but that was just fine. It was a nice prom. It was pleasant. My friend Wendy was named Prom Queen. LOL! She didn't even want it, you could tell. I'm sure she was thinking "Hoooooooly shit" when they read off her name. Well, I'm glad she got it. She and I go way back when we suffered in French class together sophmore year. Christine, Suzanne, Maria, Liz, and I left the prom at 12:30 and went back to my house to change. Ryan left in a separate care because he had to be at work by 9 that morning. Then it was off to Emily's 18th birthday party. I crashed and burned there. No amount of caffeine, sugar, or scandalous gossip could have revived me. Christine and Jessica took to flirting with a couple of Casey's church friends. The rest of us kind of chatted, picked at pretzels and Mountain Dew, and settled to watch "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Ah, what a classic that is. At 4:15 this morning, I had had enough. Jessica took me home. And I was out like a light. I woke up around 10 or so. I didn't sleep that long, really. I went to an awards ceremony for a piece of art of mine that won an honorable mention. Really, that piece, no matter how much I hate it, should have won a better prize. The pieces that placed were shit. I tell you, art shows and the people who judge them are fickle. The guy who handed out the awards reminded me a lot like the chair of the art department at NKU. Thank God the latter is retiring this year. Thank God I don't have to see the former again. But, that's another award added to my transcript. Jake and Zach won first place for their pieces in the painting and drawing category. They both got this huge trophy and medalion; it was totally unnecessary and overdone for the type of art show that it was, but maybe I'm just jealous. Maybe? Yes, I am jealous. Their pieces that won were nice, but, like I said, my piece should have placed higher than an honorable mention. Just the huge three-foot trophy was not necessary for the type of art contest it was-- not as prestigious as it sounds, that is-- and it was blatant flaunting. Well, I'm going to shut up about that now. I got a ribbon, and that's more proof of something than some other contests I've won. *yawn* I am sooooo tired. I think I'll relax on the comp for a little while more and then hit the sack.
