The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Rested written @ 10:05 PM on March 28, 2004 So I took the time this weekend to try and establish a life outside of "situations directly involved with school," and I have begun to taste what it means to be in college, that is, procrastination, mutiny against studying (specifically, studying art history... damn the Greeks and their damned Orders and canons, by the by), and not going to bed until the ripe hour of 2 am. So I did something especially out of character. I went to a "punk" band showcase at the York Street Cafe in Newport. "Punk" is in quotations because according to Jessica it wasn't really punk, or it was bad punk... or emo or... well... anyway, I will not even try to pretend I know what I'm talking about because I don't. Anyway, I deduced what I already knew: punk and alternative really isn't my kind of scene, although being an art major I like to imagine that I'm against the grain as these fellows on stage seemed to believe. It's good to affirm what you suspect, I suppose. Plus I found I like to hear myself think. Christine, Lindsey, Liz, and Sara seemed to have a good time, which is an understatement. They've become Class A groupies to "a drummer (or was he a guitarist?) who looks like Ashton Kutcher," or whatever the hell this Grade B actor's name is. Naturally I've resigned to stay out of the loop of the local mainstream. I'm not allowed to have too much fun, you know? So, how did I spend my Sunday? I attempted studying, gave up around 2:30, and then did something else that's out of character: I went for a walk and took pictures of interesting things along the way. Today dawned very lovely, and the trees are beginning to bloom. So it was just me in my flip-flops, my camera in hand, alone to my own thoughts. Then I came back and finished a book I've been reading on and off, and then went to photo call after the play and took two rolls of film of my sets. And feeling very rested, I will begin a new week.
