The Diary of Queen Mothy |
She's On Fire!! written @ 10:26 AM on October 30, 2004 Jesse threatened me. Annalyse threatened me. And Brian threatened me. So I simply had to go to the theatre department Halloween party, because staying inside on a Friday night working on artwork simply won't do. Blasphemy. You know how it goes. I didn't have a costume until Thursday at roughly 11:30am. The costume shop was cleaning out their storage and put a bunch of items they felt they would never use on sale for $5 per costume, $2 for wigs, shoes, and hats, etc. I found a red silk kimono with a gold embroidered dragon on the back in relatively good condition. I had intensions of using it as a bathrobe in preparation for the next time I get caught in the shower during a fire alarm (because bad luck like that runs in threes and we've just passed incident #2), but since the above individuals basically made me go to the party, I dressed up as a geisha. Brian sprayed my hair black, and I powdered my face and gave myself the China doll kind of geisha look. The party was splendid, or as splendid as someone who normally doesn't go to parties and feels awkward in crowded social situations go. The drinking and the debachery abounded, as is custom at theatre department parties. Pretty standard stuff. I decided it was time to leave when people began dancing on the furniture around 2am . . . . . . but not before I managed to set my kimono on fire. It really was something out of a slapstick comedy. Chris and Josh had about a hundred candles around their house to give the place a spooky feel, and here I was, leaning on a counter in their kitchen nonchalantly when someone asked if something was burning. I sniffed. Yup. Something was burning. And boy, it sure was warm in there all of a sudden. Finally I looked down and saw my silk sleeve was glowing and smoldering. "Oh. Wow," I said, suddenly impressed, and I beat the fire out while everyone's jaw just about hit the floor. "Huh. Fancy that," I mused, looking down at the big black hole in my sleeve. "I set myself on fire." Welp, there's a first for everything, eh? Happy Halloween.
