The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Got a Cell Phone! written @ 9:21 PM on October 29, 2002 At 7:30 this morning, when all the collegiates of my dorm were snug in their beds, minus the sugarplums in their heads, a sound much like that of fingernails on a chalkboard pleasantly awoke us from sound slumber. Yes, it was our dear friend, Mr. Fire Alarm. My roommate and I jumped out of our beds. I began looking for some shoes; the closest thing were my shower shoes. I looked for my jacket; the closest thing was my duster. I looked for my keys; I didn't have my contacts in so I never found those. I looked outside; it was a fucking monsoon. Great, just great, I said. I grabbed the umbrella: the brightest thing I did all morning. It was fricking freezing outside. There was no goddamned fall. It went from summer straight into winter. It was the type of cold that cuts straight to the bone, and wearing my paper-thin pajamas did not help matters. We stood outside for 30 minutes in the pouring rain. We were all quite unhappy. Those who had natural 20/20 vision/glasses and could see five feet in front of them decided to go to breakfast. And when they finally sent us back in, my alarm had gone off, and there was a rush to the girls bathroom. The bathroom was now the general recreation area of Cumberland Dorm, C-Wing. After a very dreary morning, I trudged my way to drawing class. It was the all-day posing, so I sat on my ass for three hours drawing a male model who kept adjusting his penis because he kept sitting on it. Immigration experiences was just boring today. We're about to start our final projects though, so my creative wheels have been turning and giving me something to think about during math class. Which was ungodly. Dr. Moore told us after chapter three that we would be starting geometry. This shit is not the geometry I remember. This is cruel brain-teaser material. The chapter is on Euler circuits, which basically means that you'll be given a design and you have to figure out whether or not you can trace around all edges of the design once without picking up your pencil. What rubbish. I don't care about raising my grade in that class anymore. I figure if I can get As in the rest of my classes, a C won't matter. Some things never change from high school. I wouldn't say it was an unhappy day; I was very much at peace with myself and most of the world. I think it would have been better if it hadn't rained. The drive home was pleasant. I'm beginning to find that driving is a stress reducer and an opportunity to put priorities back into place. I got home and unpacked the stuff that was taking up too much room in the dorm. And then I loaded the car for things I needed to bring back before this weekend. Dad did not come home, like Mom thought he would. She was a little mad, but he would have just bitched about dinner anyway. And, oh surprise, surprise, Mom finally bought me a cell phone. It's a spiffy little thing, nothing fancy like what Kat has, but it'll get me through. I'm debating whether or not to hand out my number to you guys because I'm not on a monthly bill thing, I'm on a phone card. Because, as we all know, Sam is not too keen on phones. Anyhoo, have to cut this short. Brian is having problems loading the Lord of the Rings Desktop theme.... *sigh* My work is never done. *evil grin*
