The Final Wall Chart written @ 8:23 PM on June 08, 2003 My subscription to Ancestry.com is about to expire, and I used half my afternoon today to tie up as many loose ends as possible. But, as genealogy adventures go, I simply managed to open up a whole new can of beans. I discovered I had a 10th or 11th great-grandmother who, along with her sisters, was raped by some guy by the last name Poitier. Their father, who was a very influential member in this Beauharnois quebecois community, brought charges against this man and succeeded in getting Poitier thrown out of the village. The thing is that Poitier wasn't sent back to France, which, I assume, was the norm for a crime like rape at the time-- he was fast enough to get married to this other woman before he could get his ass kicked out of Canada for good. He had to pay my 10 great-grandmother and her sisters 100 livres apiece to "restore their honor" and to ensure they'd get a husband, and he also had to give up his land to my 11th great-grandfather's ownership. Unfortunately, as you can see, my oh-so-very-French Canadian-American family does not own an acre of this land today. Some other descendent probably owns it now. But, anyhoo, after I did as much work as possible in about three or four hours, I printed out my final wall chart for some time: it's 4 1/2 feet tall and 6 feet wide. It can now officially call itself a "wall chart." I still have a lot of work to do on my mother's side of the family. Like I've said in previous entries, those goddamned French Canadians were like rabbits-- I haven't even covered 1/10 of all the siblings, and already I have 1700 people in my database. But after my subscription expires, I'm going to concentrate on my dad's side and conduct my research the old fashioned way: sending away for records and searching for graveyards and living relatives who might know a thing or two. *sigh* I am so overwhelmed by all those Canadians... Truly, I am. There's soooo many... *** The rest of my afternoon was spent on my set designs. I am working on the final concept draft that includes the entire set on the stage. I don't think I'll be doing any ground plans until the concept itself is approved. *** 13 DAYS UNTIL HARRY POTTER 5 COMES OUT!!!
