The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Framed written @ 5:51 PM on March 02, 2004 So after four weeks of long labor, including nights, entire weekends, and every spare minute I could manage, my sculpture professor looked at my piece and said, "It's unfinished." Fuck that. Really. I've never been so pissed off at a critique in my entire life, but that is, after all, life. I'll get over it. I chatted with him after class about justifying my effort with the end product of my sculpture, and he pretty much told me I was going to get a B on it. Ahh, yes, indeed, fuck that... I wouldn't be so upset if I didn't care so much about my piece; it was very personal to me. Oh well. Like I said, I'll get over it. I've come to the conclusion that I should get angry once in a while anyway. Anger can be a very healthy emotion, but unfortunately I only externalize it in this diary of mine. And my sculpture teacher, while being a very nice guy and enlightened artist, is a worthy scapegoat. Anyhoo, on to better news. My friend Christian helped me frame my artwork last night at the bright hour of 9pm. I abused my power as scenic designer and unlocked the props room in the theater and promptly spread my art supplies and equipment all over the place to assemble and wire the exhibition frames and mat the artwork. Only took us an hour, and the results were fantastic. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pieces into the show based on presentation. Which pieces am I submitting? Three of my figure drawings, which I displayed in my diary early last semester, my swan painting I made for my mother, and the Japanese maple tree painting I have talked about periodically. I don't expect the latter to get in, but we'll see. There is also a scholarship competition that I finished the application for last night. We'll see how that goes, too. Over all, I am stressed out to the point that I've taken up carrying a bottle of aspirin around (but before you accuse me of being a drug addict, I haven't popped one yet), but, hell, it's already Tuesday and spring break is next week. There could be worse things in life. Anyway, just a short update. On to art history class...
