And Aunt Jules Dies... written @ 6:42 PM on November 26, 2002 Jeez, talk about fate. One day after writing that little "ode to my ancestors" thing, my grand aunt Julie croaks. On my dad's side of the family, she would have been my grandmother's sister. What's even more unfortunate is that she could have answered some of my questions about that branch of the family from Czechoslovakia/Austria. I intended to write her this Christmas and everything. Never really knew the woman, although I met her a few times when I was little. I remember she had a Siamese cat. I'll need to ask my cousin, who lives in what was my grandparents' house, to get an obituary from the paper, a prayer card, and maybe a few other things so I can keep a record of Julie in my genealogy files. I would like to go to Pittsburgh to the funeral so I could interview other relatives while I'm at it-- as tacky as that sounds-- but, naturally, Mom's afraid of me leaving my paper bag. Dad and Aunt Bobby are not going to Pittsburgh either, even though they were close to Julie; this is bound to create a rift between relatives if the kids of David Sr. and Helen don't show up, but Dad claims he was never really "on the good side" of the family. Plus he doesn't care if the other relatives care. If I had to guess, she'll be buried at Cavalry Cemetery with the rest of the family. I'm willing to bet that's where they put my great grandfather-- the one who doesn't seem to have existed (see past entries)-- which is an even better reason to go to Pittsburgh: take photos of the cemetery. Now that my mom's side of the family is nearing completion in my research, I can devise new schemes in tackling my dad's side, the elusive Renos of Pittsburgh. I will find them if it kills me. I know the records are there. So that's basically what's new at the moment. It's snowing outside and it's bitterly cold, but I am now at home on my official Thanksgiving break. My grandmother is flying down from Rhode Island tonight, so I'll be sure to show her my new findings on the old family tree. I can't wait to get together with everyone again. It'll be fun!
