Elven Ring Happy! written @ 6:11 PM on August 07, 2002 Jeez, my "Lord of the Rings" hype has just increased three-fold. Yesterday Kat brought over the "Fellowship" DVD that was just released, and we spent the entire afternoon watching the featurettes and all the other special features on one of the disks. We didn't watch the movie itself. At my party we had seen the movie, and though we love the film very much, it's a tough one to swallow all at once on a sunny afternoon. There were a lot of interviews with the individual cast members, and really, some of them look scary outside their character parts. Like Orlando Bloom (Legolas), for instance (purr-purr!!), had a freaking mohawk. It was a shock from his pretty blond Elvish hair in the film, but by the time the interviews for "The Two Towers" came out, his hair returned to some degree of normalcy. Anyway, our Lord of the Rings ectascy high did not end with the afternoon's conclusion of all those damned long special features-- we went on the website afterward. And there we were greeted with Pippin's voice welcoming us to lordoftherings.net. "You know what," said I, "I bet that if we refresh the page, we'll hear OTHER cast members' voices too!" Sure enough... "Hello, this is Elijah Wood, and welcome to lordoftherings.net." "Hello, this is Peter Jackson, and welcome to lordoftherings.net." I must have happily pushed the refresh button 10 times. In the end, the most productive thing I ended up doing yesterday was downloading the Legolas screensaver. I tell you what, though, "The Two Towers" trailer looks freaking awesome. Come December 17, I'm parking my ass out in the cinema parking lot with my college and old high school chums and awaiting the next morning. Because, may Galadriel help me, I'm on a pop culture Lord of the Rings hype that has not surfaced since "Titanic." It pisses me off that the parental units hated the film so much. And today? I finished the portrait I was working on for the most part, organized my genealogy files, took notes on the book I'm supposed to read for college, and pondered doing more constructive things. I got my software for my laptop today, so I'm just about ready to divorce myself from the world of desktop/home computer systems and marry the world of compulsive on-the-go-gotta-check-my-e-mail-in-the-car-bus-train-plane-college-home-work systems. Oh, and a note on mushy diary entries: I'm mushy because 1) those damnable English teachers through high school stressed symbolism and looking for deeper meanings, and that method of thinking has taken over a large part of my brain and now makes me look deeper into my life so that I live my life like a novel instead of the routine day-to-day thoughtless madness; 2) people think it's totally out of character for me to be mushy, but let us try not to ignore the fact that I am more mush than stone, so therefore, because I can't speak openly about mushiness in public, most of my diary entries turn out to be wrist-slitters; 3) mushiness is in vogue. So, Liz, it's okay to be mushy. *evil grin*
