The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Muy Moolah! written @ 9:26 PM on February 23, 2004 My painting class was cancelled this afternoon, so I sauntered down to the scene shop and helped the lab with constructing the show I'm designing the sets for... ... because unlike other scenic designers, I feel a need to participate on all levels of the design process... ... because I'm neurotic and a controlling bitch like that. Anyway, whilst there, armed with screws and a power drill and a will to use both, Steve came by and asked how I felt about designing two shows this summer. Two shows in one summer! Holy smokes! Can we say, "Cha-ching?" If everything goes accordingly, I'll be designing the first and second show out of the three NKU is producing this summer, and Steve says I shouldn't get lower than $4000 for the whole shabang. If this is true, I'll be able to pay off my trip to Paris in summer 2005. The only thing I have to do is negotiate for my paycheck. Which I have never done before, really. I'm too tame, and I don't know how to go about doing that ethically. I'll probably consult my dad on financial issues such as this. Otherwise, it was good news! I told the dinner gang about it this evening, however, and one of the college capadres inquired sardonically, "Sam, do you ever sleep?" When you're as excited as I am right now, heck no! You have no time to lose! We're talking major portfolio work in my second year of college, and when you think about it, I'm pretty lucky because most scenic design programs don't let their students touch a stage groundplan until their senior years! So, you see, all this hard work eventually pays off in the end, eh? Luck plays a role in it, too, believe you me. None of it is set in stone, of course, and a lot of these future events depends on the success of A Piece of My Heart, but I think as far as finding my niche in life goes, I think I've at last managed to bridge fine art and theater into a harmonious whole. If I keep going at the present rate, I'll be sitting pretty at the end of March. Most of my major tests and projects will be out of the way, I'll have gotten ahead of the race during spring break in two weeks, I'll be refreshed, I'll be motivated, and if I play my cards right I'll be tasting some long term success.
