The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Older Than Vetch written @ 8:12 PM on November 12, 2003 Well, my semester is about to dive into the deepest circles of hell and will only spit me back out in the whirlwind of the Christmas season. I have so many final projects and major exams to prepare for... in a word, it's nuts, even for my habits. As a result, I do fear I will be far and away from my computer often. The darkroom has become the equivalent of Davey Jones' locker. Well, besides the usual bitching about my school work, which is mess I bring about myself anyway, I do have a few things to report. 1) I secured another interview at Michael's for this Saturday after the manager I was talking to forgot about me two weeks ago for the first interview. Hopefully this will go better; it seems as though I may be securing a position assisting in art classes. In which case, it also looks as though I'll be searching for a second job. I hear Starbucks calling my name-- and my vacation taking the next flight out of the country without me. 2) I nearly retched when I heard about Liz's car accident. I told my mom about it, and she recommended a lawyer to take the case; she said there's a lot of money to be won in medical bills for an accident of that magnitude. In any case, I hope you feel better, Liz! 3) My archeaology professor lectured about New World vegetation-- such as the potato. He claims Irish ancestry . . . which led to an interesting discussion about the potato famine. *smirks at Christine and Jessica* He said that one of the big things that caused the famine was this fungus that affects the specific varieties of potato. "Hell," my professor commented, "if the Irish had grown more varieties of potato out of the 1200 in existence, they could have avoided the whole famine to begin with." Jessica, do you think fungus prevented the potatoes from eating the corn? In light of our own debate of the "Irish potatoes" this summer, I had to keep from cracking up-- especially after my professor went on to talk about the 1500 different species of corn growing side-by-side potatoes on farms all over the world. Inside joke, guys, don't feel bad if you don't get it. Long story anyway from an ancient summer day. 4) Still on the subject of archeaology, I had another one of my conscious flashbacks while sitting in class listening about farming in Jericho this morning. Yeah, guys, it's true: my soul is about as old a Jericho-- and I farmed vetch and sheep. 5) Got a 97% on my international politics exam, proving once again that there is a God. And that I was a politician in another past life-- and a damned good one too. So anyhoo back to the labor...
