The Diary of Queen Mothy |
The 4th and Beyond... written @ 5:22 PM on July 06, 2002 My 4th of July was good. I actually had written an entry about it that day, but then I accidentally hit a wrong button on my laptop and lost an entire rant page on why the U.S. should change its foreign policy and what the Founding Fathers would say about the country now. Very few would have appreciated it anyway, I think. My brother has been at an overnight hockey camp at Miami U all week so the house has been pretty damned nice and quiet until this afternoon. So it was just Mom, Dad, and me for the 4th. I worked that day unfortunately. For fireworks, we took this backroad off Kings Island-- as opposed to paying $9 to sit in a parking lot with 20,000 other crazies-- and found a hill overlooking a developmental drainage ditch. We were about a mile away from Kings Island, but we could see the park just fine. The show was pretty good-- not as good as the City of Blue Ash's display last year, but it was kinda neat when they made the tower look like it was going to take off like a rocket. We were too far away to hear any significant explosions, but as Americans we paid our dues for the evening. It was a low key Fourth of July actually. Last night, Margaret had a party and invited quite a few people over. No new tales or gossip to spill. Her mom's an excellent cook and taught us how to make homemade ice cream on what I'd like to call a 21st Century Amish grinder. She added vanilla flavoring and cut peaches. Mmm! It was really good when added to butterscotch. We just kinda hung around and chilled for most of the night. When people began to leave, we watched "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Always a good show. And, of course, with Chen going to Harvard, Kat going to Cornell, Margaret going to Bethel College, and other old acquaintances with GPAs of 10.9, it would only be expected to debate and discuss the impact of video games, or lack thereof, on the purposes of the individual. I worked again today. I'm handing in my resignation letter tomorrow, and my last day is July 17 or somewhere around there. We're going to Destin, Florida for a week, and when we get back, I just want to take the rest of the summer off before going to college. Which reminds me, I'm thinking I will add another course to my schedule. Fifteen credit hours just does not seem like enough, especially for someone with a double major.
