The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Rolly Polly written @ 9:33 PM on June 02, 2004 I haven't written an entry of substance in a while, mostly because jack has been going on. Let me clarify: jack that my short attention-spanned readers would care to read. But here's an entry just to remind you that I'm not dead, much to certain individuals' chagrin. What have I been up to? Well, mostly work related business. My hot pink and lime green sets are simply glowing in the Black Box Theatre as I type this. I know I'm never going to be able to get away with a color combination like this again. Oh yes, there will be pictures here, let me assure you. I'm sure few designers in the world of theatre thought of such a duo-- or hesitated to employ it. I got my inspiration from Queer Eye For the Straight Guy on HGTV. Not that any of the heterosexuals on their program requested that their apartments were painted in hot pink and lime green, but for some reason I felt that if Jay and I were acquainted, he would agree with my choices. And it's kept Director Diabla off my back, in any case. When not in work, I've been skulking around the local Barnes and Noble armed with my sketchbook. I've been tearing through their entire stock of art books and copying master portraits and taking notes about artists who have struck a chord with me. I wish I had been introduced to Sergant sooner, though he should have been a no-brainer. Here was an artist who marched to the beat of his own drum. And got paid. Engrossing myself in these art history textbooks has been fuel to my fire, I have to admit. A healthy dose of Women Artists inspired me to get through this doozy of a strawberry still life I've been laboring over for the past few days. God bless eighteenth century women who flipped society the bird via pastels, that's all I have to say. Mom thinks that going to the bookstore so much is not so healthy, though. I'm sure other parents would say the direct opposite, but Mom is not without reason. She knows that I am a creature of habit-- and stubborn to boot-- but I think she would rather I was out skipping along with the posse. Yet Sam will be Sam, you know. But the posse is busy a lot these days. And just about damned well near all of us have hit that time of the month and therefore have little patience for cavorting. All that is to change Friday, however, when we embark to the movies to pay homage to our false god, Harry Potter! I preordered tickets, and oh, how we shall make merry come Friday. *** The evening has been so lovely. The moon is this big peach in the sky... Incidentally that will be the subject of my next still life. Peaches, that is. Oh, one last thing before I go... I began reading PyschoBible last night. Holy shit. You guys need to read this book. In case you don't recall, PsychoBible is a psychologist's analysis of the Bible and its history. I'm only about halfway through the introduction, and you know what I learned? That scholars are not exactly sure that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote the Gospels! You know, I prepared to be shocked upon reading this book, but it's going to take me a while to swallow that one. Apparently Christian leaders as late as the 4th century simply "designated" the gospel of Matthew to Matthew the Apostle instead of Matthew Someone Else. And if you ever get a chance to read up on how the Old Testament came together, do so. I found myself wondering how Jews and Christians can be so sure about what they know and believe. Anyhoo, check out PyschoBible. It's sure to make you muse.
