Summer Break! Hola! written @ 9:25 PM on May 05, 2005 Ten days until I turn 21 and can drink without guilt! Woohoo! For an early birthday present, my roommate bought me pina colada mix, which has a bottle of green and blue sugar (think sand art-esque), and handmade artsy earrings she bought down in Nashville over spring break. She said they were the kind of artsy earrings that only my particular brand of bohemian fashion could pull off, and I must agree, if I do say so myself. My mood today, unlike most of the semester, is jovial. I had my last final exams this afternoon, and after that I smashed everything I owned from the dorm into Esmeralda and drove home. Jessica and I were discussing how a typical college student packs for a trip. We call it "college physics," where suddenly-- without warning-- the laws of space, volume, and mass suddenly do not apply to moving vehicles or heavy machinery. Under the laws of "college physics," you may conceivably fit a couch in your tiny Ford Escort with the assistance of three soccer players and a single bungee cord. Creativity is required in order to pull off college physics, but then again creativity and utter stupidity are often linked together on a typical campus. Dare I add that I was driving under less than desirable circumstances? Do I admit that a lack of access to the rear window-- much less the rear view mirror-- and 50% of my right side (not to mention I had to set a lamp aside every time I switched gears) put other drivers at risk? Do I further note that under such circumstances "college physics" allows the driver instant psychic abilities to guess what is happening on the road around him or her with the other drivers in rush hour traffic? Yes, yes, and yes, friends. I am guilty on all charges. And as soon as I pulled into my driveway and wiped the sweat from my face, I realized how much I can kick ass too. So here I am, home for the summer on a Thursday night. Can I get an "amen" and "hallelujah?" Shall I rant about how much this semester sucked? No, friends, I will not. I am washing my hands free of the past. I have just finished unpacking my shiznit, the windows are open, and I am listening to suburbia's evening air. Tonight I will begin reading a book. Tomorrow I am going hiking in the woods, followed by a potential trip to a coffeeshop and bookstore. Saturday-- gasp-- I may just go out with a friend! And who knows?! Maybe I'll have a social life this summer!! *deep breath* Oh, baby steps, Sam, baby steps. Right? Let's not get our heads up in the clouds here. But, seriously, I am relieved. I keep checking my grades online and so far I have all As, and my GPA is up to a 3.9 or something like that. I have a week off before I start my job in theatre-- meanwhile I'm going to get ready organizing arts events in the community. It's going to be a good summer! And I just might update regularly on Diaryland again!
