The Diary of Queen Mothy |
The Formal written @ 11:24 PM on May 04, 2004 Welp, the theatre formal was fantastic, mostly because fewer people got plastered this year-- so I know I was talking to "real" people. I honestly don't know why I have problems talking to drunk people, but, anyway, that's besides the point. I donned my 18th-century ball gown, and Jessica did my hair and make-up Baroque style (awesome job, chica!). Away I went, first to dinner, then to the awards! The people at the restaurant were a little confused at first. The little girl sitting at the table next to Andrew (my date who dressed up a la Ben Franklin, or so everyone said) kept staring at us. We walked arm-in-arm into the theatre for the end-of-year awards, and upon entering, everyone's jaw hit the floor and everyone began applauding and cheering. It was by far one of my best stage entrances to date, with my nose in the air and a lacey fan in one hand. The awards were a blast. I didn't win anything, which is just fine and dandy by me because I dared not attempt to climb up to that stage with those shoes, but good old Beth and Erica sang a song about the theatre department, and I made it into the lyrics, which were hilarious. Afterwards, we headed to this bar/restaurant in Covington, where Christine and I enjoyed cheesecake and strawberry dacheries and listened to bad music whilst engaging in the art of mingling. Most of my good friends from theatre was there, and it was simply a good atmosphere because everyone was being cool and there was hardly any stupid shit going on that usually characterizes theatre department functions. Drama, you know? An acquaintance of mine, Megan, brought her oh-so-Jewish boyfriend and his roommate along. The roommate, Kyle, he goes to the University of Cincinnati. Why do I mention him? *sigh* I became the temporary object of his affection and was later asked to flirt with him a little. To my chagrin, I did. A little bit. He's a computer engineering major. "So that's like... math and stuff?" I asked. "Something like that," he said dryly. Overall, a pretty cool guy. You can tell he's looking for a girlfriend, even if he never said so, or even if the conversation never even moved in that direction. I just know these things. If I have psychic skills in any area, it's in the "prowling male"/futures of relationships area. Of course, it's also fun to watch people dance, especially in this day and age when throngs of the 14-29 age bracket consider dancing shifting weight on their legs rhythmically. For the record, you can include me in the "throngs." But these dances are made even more interesting when half the people on the dance floor are dance majors. Which makes the other half of the people on the floor look like idiots. Overall, I give the Sam Stamp of Approval to the 2004 theatre department formal. *** Today I realized I needed to begin studying for my final exam in art history... which was six hours from the point I began studying. If there's anything that I've learned from this class, it's that you can't possibly study for early Christian through Gothic art in six hours with any hope of getting an A. Maybe a B- but definitely not the A. I really don't give a damn, though, because I had a pretty solid 97% average before the exam, so I can take a hit or two. Otherwise... well... I just don't give a damn. This happens when it's the end of the school year. I'm sure you understand. Then I finished my self-portrait for my painting class final. I think it's one of my better pieces actually. I'll need to post it here some time. So... I'm tired. It's been a long two weeks, and I'm busy moving stuff out of the dorm. To bed!
