The Hogwarts Diploma written @ 11:38 AM on August 01, 2002 The party is tomorrow. Should be fun. The pool pump is still not working, so we may be left to our own devices, which will suck, but we'll get through, I guess. Here's a thought that dawned on me last week: (I have not read the Harry Potter books for details, so let's assume I'm basing my ponderings off the movie.) If you were to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and got a diploma for mastering all your classes, what good will the diploma have served? Think about it. It does not seem that this school taught practical traditional academic subjects in addition to the magical ones, so what have you really learned? It seems as though the diploma would only be good if you were to go into a type of magic field for a career. Hogwarts also likes to keep a low profile because of the edginess of mugols, or whatever you call them, otherwise the school would not have gone through all the trouble of the Platform 9 3/4 ordeal. So if you were to apply for a traditional job, and the application were to ask you what your educational background was, what do you put down? "I attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!" or "I attended Lakota East," and pray your employer doesn't do a background check. But then if anyone asked you to fashion proof that you went to Lakota East, can you imagine how much trouble it would be to obtain fake documentation for an East diploma? After all, who would take you seriously if you said Hogwarts? Ultimately, if you wanted a job in the real world as opposed to a magical one, would you have to repeat school in order to obtain a "socially accepted" diploma? Can anyone answer this one?
