The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Sam the Domestic Clucking Hen written @ 9:07 PM on October 20, 2002 It's a funny thing, college. It seems to me that in high school, people judged you by what you wore and who you hung out with. In college, it's more like your being is judged by your major. Just a thought to chew on this evening. I accomplished a few things today, even though for the most part it went pretty uneventfully. After brunch, I went to Trisha's room because, lo and behold, she has a scanner! What luck! So I scanned the family pictures my grandmother sent to me last week and then forwarded them to my third cousin twice removed or something who lives in Iowa and is helping me with my genealogy. I think she'll like them, especially since my grandmother uncovered a picture of my great-great grandmother. Afterwards I went to Lowe's to buy some rope. Why do I need rope, you ask? Well, for the past three weeks I've been working on two very large paintings... large being two-by-four feet plywood... and for the past three weeks I've been wondering how I was going to get these two sons-of-bitches to class, which, from dorm to the classroom, I've estimated to be about half a mile's walk and three staircases later. So, basically, I bought rope to rig these two pieces of wood together, sling them over my shoulder and go on my merry little way, all the while looking like fucking Conan the Barbarian. It's a shame they never taught knot-making in Brownie Girl Scouts, not that I would have cared at the time. Tuesday is when the critique is scheduled. Bound to be interesting what the class thinks about my essence of time and change theme of my work. Then I set about to cleaning up some homework, research projects and such. Uploaded some pics to my genealogy website. I'm not sure how to organize the albums, but it's probably best I do it by surname. Dinner was ever monotonous, but I dare say I can survive on grilled cheese, Lucky Charms, salad, and the occasional pasta and vanilla ice cream cone for the next five years. I think the gods that deal out the Freshman 15 are a little frustrated with me, as I have successfully eluded their capture being the vixen that I am. In the span of all this time, I also did my laundry. What an interesting life I lead. I started reading "Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy out of frustration that the fifth Harry Potter book still has not reared its head at a publishing office. I actually started reading "Anna Karenina" back in June while I was innocent and before Bob Evans nearly ruined my life, and I dare say, for a Victorian novel that was first published in 1877, it is rather graphic. A good read, but I always find it funny when uppity Victorian social elites start talking about sex. But that's just me. After dinner, I finished my paintings for my drawing class (that sounds so amusing to me, you have no idea), and did my best Boy Scouts rope tying and rigging yet. I ended up using all 50 feet of the rope I bought, but hell, the more the merrier. Perhaps when my artwork looks like one big ball of rope, people will become curious but too afraid to ask, and then I won't have gawkers. Points for me, I win! Then I cleaned the room. And I stand amazed and impressed at how my domestic abilities have improved over these past three months since entering college. Hell, Jessica and Christine would be impressed. My desk is clean, the paint materials are all picked up, the overall mojo is positively grooving. I was a little upset when I checked my e-mail that I didn't have many messages besides the usual spam, so I went on the Harry Potter website (25 DAYS!!!!) and watched the new trailer a couple times. Yes, that certainly did restore my purpose in life and gave me a reason to live. To move on. As long as there's Harry Potter somewhere out there, the world is a brighter place and there will be a hopeful tomorrow. After all, "I believe that children are the future..." Slap me whenever you're ready.
