Say No to Favors written @ 4:50 PM on September 25, 2004 You won't believe what I did. Oh hell, yes you will. I was offered a position on the school newspaper's staff as an ad designer, and I took it. Because somehow I believe I don't have enough to do! Actually, my reasons for becoming a designer for the paper are rather ulterior in nature. I'm looking to double my graphic design portfolio before I go through my BFA portfolio review next spring-- to ensure I don't have to go through with the review again. That's all, folks! Of course, with things being as hectic as they are, I know I'm asking for trouble, but I think it will be worth it in the end. I swore off newspapers since The Spark in the 12th grade, but when you're planning on making your living as a freelance artist, you can't exactly be burning bridges to other markets, right? No, that would be stupid. So on Monday I'm stopping by their office, filling out an application, and getting started designing ads for local companies and patrons that advertise in the paper. What have I been up to in the meantime? Mostly studying. Bah! I had a killer exam on proto-Renaissance art on Tuesday, so I had been freaking out about that from Sunday until Tuesday night, in addition to completing my presentation on Fortunato Depero (due Tuesday) and a final project for typography (due Thursday), and a test in theatre (Wednesday). Basically, my classes are giving me the royal run-around this semester. I thought the dust would settle a bit sooner, but it seems as though I'm going to be on my toes for quite some time-- at least until all these ridiculous PowerPoint presentations are finished. So when Friday came around and I had more projects piled on my shoulders, I decided I had to take a personal day to just get shit done. You know what that's like. Just get all the stupid, little stuff done and out of the way. And I did. Anyway, that explains my absence from Diaryland. One of these days I'm going to learn how to say "no," I swear it. "Say No to Favors... Unless You Pay Me." *** And then I figured out my schedule for next semester. You're going to laugh when you read this, or shake your head in absolute pity: Intro. to Computer Graphic Design, Survey of Western Art III, History of Design, Stage Appearance, Business of Theatre, Politics and the Arts, Shakespeare, Production Hour, and Portfolio Review. About 20 credit hours worth of classes. At this point, I'm like, "Whatever, I can take it, mo-fo." *lol* I'm actually rather looking forward to it. Welp, it's off to dinner.
