The Diary of Queen Mothy |
Easy there, sport. written @ 10:09 PM on August 31, 2004 Let the record show that I am an idiot. Last week my graphic design professor assigned a project having to do with learning to create symbols using famous pieces of architecture. A big project. One that you couldn't conceivably do in one weekend. I don't know why that never occurred to me. So I went to the library; spent hours doing research on the Pantheon, the Hagia Sophia, Chartres Cathedral, and the theatre at Epidauros; did more than fifteen thumbnails using said assembled research for both pictograms (symbols literally representing the structures) and ideograms (symbols representing the spirit, character, or idea of the building); finalized my ideas; drew and meticulously cut the symbols on black paper; assembled everything on a large presentation board, all schnazzy and professional-looking. Then I completed my typography projects before going back to the dorm this morning at the fabulous hour of 1:30am . . . Only to discover at my 9:25am class (mind you, running off less than five hours of sleep and one cup of very bad yet very strong coffee) that the goddamned graphic design project isn't due for another two weeks. The research was the only thing that was due. When I found out I began laughing. One of those maniacal guffaws that tells anyone who hears it that there's either going to be a homicide or a suicide commencing shortly thereafter. My teacher's jaw hit the floor. "I can't believe you have a sense of humor about this . . . I've handed out this project seven times in my teaching career. I've never had anyone do this in that period of time." Hi, Professor, nice to meet you. I am a tiger! Rowl! (And I'm also one of the fuckin' most neurotic people that you'll ever meet, too.) Otherwise I had a good day. :)
