Art Project Ramblings written @ 6:44 PM on October 05, 2002 For my avid readers, please disregard this entry. I'm trying to figure out a solid idea for an art project... It's too easy for me to paint a theme that's theater related. I thought about painting a scene from a story, like what the old masters used to do, but I've read too many stories to easily settle on one. I've got to look deeply into my life. Think, Sam, what has been the dominate force in your life? Change. Life never stays stagnant. Okay, we're on to something. What is it about change that moves life? Change itself moves life. Change is what keeps humanity on its toes. If no one changed, life could come to a complete stop. If one stays the same their entire life, this person will become miserable because the world will evolve without him or her. Eventually, this person's stubborness to change will cause him or her to die. This can be tied in with the themes of denial and blindness. Therefore, not changing could be deadly, or leave the individual completely disillusioned. But if the person embraces change, then life evolves. One proceeds through youth, middle age, and old age. In each stage, life changes and takes on a different face. If the person constantly changes, this person has learned to truly live. People often resist change and/or look on the past fondly and/or use the past to make judgments on the future. But how to convey this in art? Imagery: Changing seasons Change of light on the earth on a regular day Change of tides Change of moon phases Change in weather Caterpillars to butterflies tadpoles to frogs hmm.. Destruction vs. creation Death vs. Life Disillusionment Unhappy Youth vs. Satisfied Old Grrrr, this sucks...
