The Diary of Queen Mothy |
O Disaster... written @ 10:48 PM on October 04, 2004 I think I'm in trouble. Big trouble. Like, "Oh fuck, I broke a $10,000 printer" trouble. Here's the story: This evening I was helping a girl from my class who was frustrated with the stupid Epson 3000 printer in the art lab use the nicer printer. The $10,000 printer. Because I used it late last week and found it worked much better and produced better results than the Epson. So she loaded her paper-- standard photo ink jet quality paper-- into the printer, and I showed her how to set up the programs and send her files to this specific printer. Just as she pressed "print," we looked down at the machine and read the following: NEVER load ink jet quality paper into print tray. We looked at each other and turned white. "Oh shit." Sure enough the printer began squealing like a dying rabbit and it ultimately stopped. Scared as hell, we began to open up the sides of the machine and look at its guts. We saw that the paper was jammed in the feed. So we unrolled it using a dial, just as the directions on the inside panel told us to. The paper came out in curled pieces. Many curled pieces. And then machine parts followed. I said, "This can't fuckin' be happening." The parts that came out were this thin film-like ribbon and this piece of rubber that might have been attached to a wheel. "There's no way we can get away with this," I told the girl I was helping. She nodded. "Oh my God. Oh my God." "Yeah. Yeah. Oh my God. You'll have to tell Julie." Julie's our prof. And then I added, "Of course, I'll confess too. This is partly my fault, too." So what do you think, kids? Am I most totally screwed or will I get away with this? I feel like shit! On one hand I'm like, yeah, this is my fault and to be banned from the lab would be a just punishment indeed. On the other hand, I'm an intro student, they never properly trained us on the machines in the lab, and dammit our tuition should be paying for this! My last hope is that they can fix it, but somehow this seems unlikely to me. *beats head on keyboard*
