The Overture Awards Judging written @ 8:41 PM on January 05, 2002 The Overture Awards competition for the visual arts was this morning. Hundreds of students from the tri-state gathered at the Cintas Center of Xavier University to drop off their portfolios, affix labels, and sign in their registration stuff. It really was something to see; you could almost feel the desire to win emulating from the other students. You could see how shifty their eyes were as they privately appraised their enemies' stray artwork that accidentally caught public eye, and then they would jump to conclusions as to how "talented" the other artists are and how easy or difficult they would be to beat. If murder or sabotage wasn't illegal in these types of contests, it would have been war. Unfortunately for them, this was only the judging. We'll see how far everyone's portfolios go.
