Project: "Titanic" written @ 3:19 PM on April 07, 2002 It's Sunday, and I'm procrastinating on my homework left over from spring break. Damn it, I have been working on stuff steadily throughout my vacation, and I'm still not close to done. So now I'm procrastinating. Yeah. This is fun. I go back to school tomorrow. Two months, that's it. I just have to put up with this fortress lifestyle two months more. My world history project has been eating up the most time. I'm doing my project on the "Titanic," which wasn't even on the list of topics to choose from but I begged and got special permission. *sneaky grin* I just have to relate the impact of the ship on modern history, which is a piece of cake. I think survivor passenger Jack Thayer's quote sums it all up: "There was peace , and the world had an even tenor to its way. True enough, from time to time there were events -- catastrophes -- like the Johnstown Flood, the San Francisco Earthquake, or floods in China -- which stirred the sleeping world, but not enough to keep it from resuming its slumber. It seems to me that the disaster about to occur was the event, which not only made the world rubs its eyes and awake, but woke it with a start, keeping it moving with less and less peace, satisfaction and happiness. . . To my mind the world of today woke April, 15, 1912." This is my favorite quote of all time when it comes to the "Titanic." Thayer said it all. In fact, I'm going to incorporate this quote into a new text project we're doing in art when we get back from break. I've been having problems with the size of the project, however, because I want to do the project right and give the ship the justice it deserves. As it stands, the outline of my project is fourteen pages long and I just hit the damned iceberg. I'm only half-way through! And don't even say the word "Powerpoint" to my face anymore. My project is kicking ass, but I hope I don't get points deducted for length. I have this huge presentation in store for the class, complete with 1912 newspaper articles, passenger lists, first-class menus and much more, and I'm pretty sure I'll hold their interest for the 20 minutes I'm scheduled to go for. I think I'm going to talk to my teacher tomorrow about it. How I hate being the over-achiever. **sigh** I just need to get motivated to hold out for the rest of my homework... I still have art stuff to do. That class in the biggest pain in the ass, but I can't help but be the willing slave. So... I'm slowly lifting my will to move... yes, we shall finish this work...
